The PowerBlock Classic Series is the second generation of PowerBlock dumbbells and feature black powder coat painted weight plates in the traditional square shape. The PowerBlock Classic offer a great great value and some different weight ranges and price points.

This set adjusts from 5-45 lbs in 5 lb increments (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 lbs) in each hand. This set has a maximum weight of 45 lbs per hand. The Classic 45 replaces 9 pair or 18 fixed dumbbells that would have a combined weight of 450 lbs. (Shown on optional Stand) Also available optional Classic Bar to allow barbell exercises with your Classic 45 Set. The dimensions of the Classic 45 are; 12"L x6" W x 6" H. Ships in 2 boxes.

As you lift the core, all the weights above the selector pin are lifted at the same time, turning your 3-pound dumbbell into a 6-pound dumbbell, or your 6-pound dumbbell into a 12-pound dumbbell. "I purchased the PowerBlock Classic Adjustable after returning the SelectTech dumbbells. The SelectTechs are cumbersome, the weight plates feel loose, and you have to dial two dials to select one weight. Furthermore, they are over $100 more expensive than the PowerBlocks. On the plus side for the PowerBlocks: they take up very little space for an adjustable dumbbell, they feel solid, while not cheap, they are much cheaper than the SelectTech dumbbells, you can do over the head tricep extensions using both weights or one using the handles on the bottom, selecting the weights is a one step process for each weight, they are upgradable with a heavier handle option and a barbell option. "In general, I think these PowerBlock Classic dumbbells are great. However, they can be a bit dangerous if you don't do a safety check. I like that there is a back up system of an elastic cord and magnets holding the pin mechanism in place. I have found there is only a real danger on certain exercises and only if you don't follow the instructions. However, using one dumbbell with two hands is possible and quite comfortable. This is a solid well made product. I have owned mine for about a year and I think they are great. Over time, there can be an issue with friction between the plates, but I very thin layer of lubricant can help. For most people, this will only have to be done infrequently." — Patrick D. Goonan
"I have a large home gym with around $30k of equipment. This $400 set is my favorite and most used item. I have one set for me and one for my wife and they fit neatly on the stand. They are very easy to use and are the most comfortable dumbbells I've ever used due to the padded grips.
I admit that I had my doubts at first. I was worried they the grip wouldn't hold up, the weight selection pins would bend or the weights would fall on my head. After 4 years of regular use, my fears were unfound. The grip is intact and the weight stacks are absolutely stable. I've tried the newer adjustable dumbbells on the market, but this is still my favorite. The weight selection seem much more secure than the nautilus, and the grip is more comfortable.
